Giovanni Marchese still believes that Catania can qualify for Europe this season, with the weekend providing an opportunity to show why.

Recent form for Gli Elefanti had them just a few points away from the European qualification spots, something that was then identified as a realistic target for the team.

However, successive defeats to Chievo and Lecce have again lengthened the odds of the Sicilians achieving this goal, with the team now seven points away from fifth spot, with six games to play.

Even so, defender Marchese believes it is still a realistic possibility for the team, but that only a win against Atalanta this weekend will help justify that declaration.

“We are staying calm and focused,” he told gathered reporters on Thursday.

“And we will look to do well against Atalanta, a squad you have to face without making any mistakes.

“We still believe in Europe – we like to win and to achieve the goals that we have set ourselves. [This game] is a chance to show we are mature enough.”
