The strike bent back Robin Olsen’s gloves in the final minute to secure the damning scoreline after Felipe Caicedo’s goal and a Ciro Immobile penalty.
“I thought when I hit it that the shot wasn’t exactly irresistible, but then I saw the net moving and after that I had no idea what was happening,” Cataldi told reporters in the mixed zone.
“I just wanted to run, to celebrate, to feel all the passion of the moment. It was special. I think this is the greatest moment of my career.
“For someone who came up through all the Lazio youth ranks to score in a derby is just the ultimate dream.”
Cataldi was booked for taking his shirt off during the celebrations, but it’s safe to say he was not concerned.
“Someone could’ve stabbed me and I wouldn’t have felt a thing at that moment.”
Immobile dedicated his goal to his wife, but Cataldi’s partner is also expecting at the moment.
“She called me and said she ran the risk of giving birth as she was so excited at my goal! We’re going to be a proper family, as it’s our first child.”
