The Ukrainians could’ve qualified for the Champions League Round of 16 with a win at San Siro, but seemed content with a 0-0 draw that sends them into the Europa League.

“We decided to replicate Inter’s tactical system, using Stepanenko between the centre-backs,” said Castro in his press conference.

“We wanted to close off their initiatives in attack, so we sought to create some solidity with a midfield block.

“We wouldn’t let Inter through the middle, and we have struggled with the wings so far in the Champions League this season, but tonight we were up to the task.”

Shakhtar Donetsk drew 0-0 both home and away with Inter in this Champions League group, having lost the Europa League semi-final 5-0 in August.
