“My time at Real Madrid started well,” the former Italy attacker told Canal Football Club.

“When Real Madrid signed me, it was to replace Figo and [Michael] Owen, two Ballon d’Or winners. That meant that I was someone important.

“I was 23 at the time. It was there that I met two of the best players in the world: Zidane and Ronaldo, Il Fenomeno.

“Many players would’ve paid to play in that Madrid team. Sometimes I didn’t play and I complained. I was angry at everyone over nothing.

“One day, Capello took me away and I went crazy in the dressing room. I insulted him in Spanish and Italian for no reason.

“After a year of arguing with everyone, I left.”
