Former Italy Under-21 boss Gigi Casiraghi is confident that Inter enigma Davide Santon will soon rediscover his magic touch.

Santon was heralded as a star of the future after being unleashed in the Inter first-team by Jose Mourinho during 2008-09.

The teenager then quickly won international recognition after being handed an Italy cap by Marcello Lippi.

However, Santon seemed to lose his way as poor form and fitness issues saw him placed on the fringe of Inter's plans.

However, Santon seemed to lose his way as poor form and fitness issues saw him placed on the fringe of Inter's plans.

But amidst reports that he is set for a January move away from San Siro, his former Azzurrini Coach has backed him to get his career back on track.

"Santon has undoubtedly got great qualities, even if there has been a slight dip in recent times," Casiraghi noted.

"That is to be expected though given his age. He needs to find that confidence in his own ability again.

"He's an intelligent lad who is in a position to improve his game."

Santon, born in January 1991, made his Serie A debut in a 1-0 win over Sampdoria in January 2009.

It's unclear whether the dismissal of Rafael Benitez this week will have any effect on Santon's Inter stint. Genoa and Fiorentina are known to be keen on his services.
