Technical director for youth development Carrera has been identified by the club as Conte’s matchday replacement as he faces a substantial touchline ban for his alleged role in the betting scandal.
Talking to the Press today, Carrera has moved to reassure that he is up to the task.
“I experienced every day for a year working with him, so I do not have a problem replacing him. I’ll try to give advice to the players near the bench, but not on my own initiative, only as a consequence of what we do every day.
“The players have put me at ease. Our group is made up of men and they will overcome any problems. Am I worried? I’ll be sitting on the bench of the Italian champions, I defy anybody to be. We talk about football and I’ve been in it for 40 years…”
The stand-in then turned his attention to Saturday’s Super Cup adversary Walter Mazzarri and was asked on Mazzarri’s comments that he taught the bigger clubs, like Juve, how to play with three centre-backs.
“If that is the case then I do not see why he should bother sending two of his men to spy on Juventus training…
“With regard to the game, we must be attentive to their counter-attacks, but we will face them with great motivation from the first to the last minute.”
