Carpi President Stefano Bonacini hit back at Maurizio Zamparini for claiming referees are trying to relegate Palermo.

Rosanero patron Zamparini released a scathing statement today and then spoke to Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli.

“I fear they want to send Palermo to Serie B, indeed that’s what they’re doing! I don’t know why, but that’s what’s going on.

“I’m speaking very strongly because I want to be protected in this run-in. You continue to say the referees are in good faith? Go to Hell!”

He was particularly incensed by the refereeing decisions in Carpi’s victory over Empoli, which allowed them to break three points clear of the drop zone.

“I have the good grace to never speak about referees in a negative or positive way,” Carpi President Bonacini told Radio Punto Zero.

“It is an approach I have taken for years, otherwise it gives alibis to the players. It is not right to incriminate just one person.

“We are not interested in what statements others release. We are fighting for our safety tooth and nail. We don’t feel safe yet and the end of the season is all to be played for.”
