“We are not going to survive with the transfer market, we can only survive with what we do on the pitch,” Carli told Sky Sport.

“We have a determined and passionate owner. He is an important resource for us, our players must know the season begins in the girone di ritorno which must be played at high levels.”

Spezia could be sold to an American fund, why does he think US businessmen are investing in Serie A?

“I think there are two reasons, first of all there aren’t strong Italian ownerships and then I think Americans are attracted by Italy. Our president has invested in two other businesses in Piedmont, not only in Parma.

“Foreigners are attracted by Italy and Italian football even if we criticise it sometimes.”

The Ducali are on the verge of signing Joshua Zirkzee from Bayern Munich and have already secured the services of Dennis Man.

“Our president preferred to sign these players now rather than in June.He has understood it’s not easy to settle in Italy. It’s the most difficult thing.”

Carli eventually refused to comment on Parma’s interest in Gianluca Scamacca.

“That’s it guys, I have to go…” he said when asked about the future of the Genoa striker who is being linked with a move to the Ennio Tardini.
