The outbreak within the Ducali had seemed to be easing, but over the last 24 hours they released statements confirming four players had become reinfected.

“We could stand here looking to a thousand alibis, which are there, real and difficult to deal with, but we ought to be happy that we’re at San Siro against Inter and that the campaign keeps going,” Carli told Sky Sport Italia.

“We mustn’t think negative. We know this is a difficult moment, where we want to get to and that it will be more complicated for us to get there, but playing against Inter must always be a joyful occasion.

“They have the quality, we need to put in a performance with spirit and sacrifice. The squad is united to put what we’ve got in our minds onto that pitch.

“The greatest achievements are the ones you get when overcoming obstacles. We want to secure Serie A safety by forging talented young players, showing entertaining football and getting the best out of talents.”
