Fabio Capello revealed what he’d say to the Milan squad after their Champions League semi-final loss and felt that Inter would have a strong shot in the final.

The Nerazzurri secured a key 2-0 win over their intercity rivals in the first leg of the final four stage, with goals from Edin Dzeko and Hakan Calhanoglu in the first 11 minutes allowing Simone Inzaghi’s side to control and close out the match at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza.

It was an incredibly disappointing and painful result for Milan, who now have to work hard to overcome their two-goal deficit in the second leg next week. Inter, on the other hand, will be feeling even more confident and will likely have one eye on the final, where they’d face the winner of Manchester City-Real Madrid.

Speaking in the studios of Sky Sports Italia, Capello first discussed how he’d talk to the Milan squad after the defeat and the work on Inter in the match.

“I would say to the Milan players that we got the first leg wrong, that they should not think about it anymore but remember the mistakes they made in the return leg. In the first half there were some big mistakes.

“If I were Inzaghi I would congratulate the team especially for the first half, they turned the ball over well and scored. Then in the second half they sat back a bit.”

He was then asked about the second leg clash between the two Milanese clubs and what Inter could do in the Champions League final.

“It’s very close for Inter, if they play with this intensity, they can create problems even for the eventual opponent in the final.

“If Milan always start badly, it means that Pioli cannot find the countermeasures or maybe it’s the characteristics of the team, with the midfield that has never been able to find the measures.”
