Fabio Cannavaro confessed he “couldn’t say no” if called to replace Cesare Prandelli as Italy Coach.

The race is on to find a new CT after Prandelli’s resignation and the group phase World Cup exit and some have suggested 2006 winner Cannavaro.

“It would be an honour for me…” the Ballon d’Or and FIFA Player of the Year 2006 told reporters.

“However, the President in charge of the Federation is also changing and I think it’s very difficult.

“Of course I couldn’t say no and I don’t know their plans for the future. It is an important moment for Italian football, though.”

Cannavaro has been working in Dubai for several years and is currently in Brazil as a commentator for ITV.
