Napoli captain Paolo Cannavaro has spoken of his joy at being cleared of match-fixing charges after “a month in Hell.”
The defender and teammate Gianluca Grava had been banned for six months for failing to report a potential fix to authorities.

However, today his appeal was accepted and the verdict overturned, as the testimony of former teammate Matteo Gianello was not considered to be credible. Napoli also had a two-point penalty quashed.
“I feel immense joy and am still crying, as I am so moved,” Cannavaro told the official Napoli website.
“It has been a terrible time, a month in Hell. Now I feel liberated. I felt so bad during this time and can never forget when I went through in this month.
“I thank everyone who stayed close to me, from the club for all they did to the Coach and my teammates who comforted me every day.”
