Napoli captain Paolo Cannavaro is in awe of the club's fans and believes that they can be a secret weapon from here until the end of the season.

Around 15,000 Napoli supporters travelled to Bologna on Sunday and inspired their team to a precious 2-0 win that keeps the title race alive.

"When we went out for the warm up, we heard a roar which you don't often hear away from home," Cannavaro said.

"Actually, perhaps it's only happened a few times in the history of football. The impact on leaving the dressing room gave us an important surge of adrenaline.

"Seeing half of the stadium turn blue is something indescribable.

"It's true that the fans can become our secret weapon. I said it a week before the game. I know the Neapolitans and I know that in this moment they are giving us positive enthusiasm and it's not to be taken for granted in the run-in.

"The fans are rediscovering that desire to win something, to impose yourself on a footballing level at a time when there are social problems. So there is also a sort of revenge, like what happened in the past. But the passion is still the same.

"We are calm. We are still the same. We are always working in this manner. We are not looking forward, but back because it's not easy up there. However, being in that group is great and it gives you satisfaction, but we're not forgetting that behind us there are teams who are running, teams with big squads."

Asked about Edinson Cavani, he said: "Diego Maradona was our history. I hope that Cavani becomes it too, but replacing Maradona isn't easy because what he did wasn't exactly little."
