Napoli captain Paolo Cannavaro has urged the club to hold on to an unsung hero by extending Gianluca Grava’s contract.

“I would like Grava’s deal to be renewed. Gianluca is crucial for our locker room,” he told Radio Marte.

The 35-year-old defender’s current contract expires in June and he was out of action from January to December 2011 with a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.

Cannavaro also commented on Italy’s road to Euro 2012, where they’ll face Spain, Croatia and the Republic of Ireland in Group C.

“I hope the Azzurri can go forward, but Spain are a very tricky opponent.”
