Antonio Candreva capped off a great performance with a stunning goal as Inter beat Lecce 4-0. “I lost a year, I want to make up for it.”

The winger was jeered off the field by fans last season with most of his crosses failing to find their targets, but he looked a completely different player in this evening’s game.

“I am happy for the goal, but above all for the victory. I saw a gap and I hit it,” Candreva told DAZN and Sky Sport Italia.

It’s probably no coincidence that he was reborn once Antonio Conte took over, as he had already been a favourite of the Coach for Italy.

“Conte is the right Coach for any player, not just me. We give our all for him because he gives his all for us and we are super happy to have him.

“I lost a year, but I want to make up for it along with my teammates. When you feel people have faith in you, it’s easier to step on to the pitch with clear ideas.”
