Antonio Candreva felt “a sense of liberation” after Inter qualified for the Champions League, ending “years of exile.”
The Nerazzurri earned their spot in Europe’s most prestigious competition after a 3-2 thriller against Lazio on the final day of last season.
“My first thought when Matias Vecino’s header went in was: ‘We’ve done it.’ It was what we all wanted after years of Inter being in exile, so a great sense of liberation for an achievement we fought hard for,” Candreva told Inter TV.

“The teammates I get on best with are Mauro Icardi, Danilo D’Ambrosio, Roberto Gagliardini, Matias Vecino, but that’s reductive giving just a few names. You can see in our eyes that this is a group which enjoys staying together.”
Candreva had been expected to leave for Monaco over the summer as part of the Keita Balde Diao deal, but insisted on staying.
“Inter is a great club, what I wanted to achieve in my career. I managed it, I am proud and honoured to have worn this jersey.”
He was asked what the fans probably don’t know about him.
“Perhaps they think I’m too serious, but in truth I’m the opposite.”
