Hakan Calhanoglu concedes that he was sad to see Gonzalo Higuain leave Milan, but is impressed with Krzysztof Piatek.

Higuain joined Chelsea on loan from Juventus in the January transfer window, cutting short his season-long deal with the Rossoneri.

Piatek was signed from Genoa to replace him, and Calhanoglu has revealed that the Polish forward has wasted little time in adapting to life at Milan, which has been on display with three goals in his last two outings.

“I got on well with Higuain, I’m sad that he left but I wish him well,” he told DHA. “Piatek is here now and I get along with him, he’s settled right away.”

Meanwhile, the Turkish international also discussed Milan’s pursuit of Champions League qualification this season, with Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Roma keeping them in fourth place.

“We’re in the Champions League places, but we have to continue like this because the teams behind us are also close,” he added. “This is very important for me, the goal is always the Champions League. Milan haven’t participated in this competition for several years.”
