The veteran was Granata Coach before taking on the role of Italy CT, but he was sacked in disgrace after the failure to qualify for the World Cup.
Today though the veteran declared “I can’t wait” to return to Serie A, and his former boss is backing him.

“In my opinion whoever takes Giampiero Ventura will have done a great deal,” Cairo explained to ANSA.
“When he has to come back is when he’s really at his best. I found him in great form and really keen to get back on track.
“I don’t think Italy’s failure to qualify for the World Cup was entirely his fault.
“Players and coaches are always important, but the directorship is particularly important.”
