Torino President Urbano Cairo urged Italy fans to stand up for Coach Giampiero Ventura after a 3-0 defeat to Spain. “He was a little too daring.”

The Azzurri were beaten in the World Cup qualifier at the Bernabeu using an audacious 4-2-4 formation.

“It is unfair to accuse Ventura who, perhaps going against his prudent nature, was a little too daring to seek a victory in Spain,” Cairo told news agency Ansa.

“It is unfair to accuse Ventura who, perhaps going against his prudent nature, was a little too daring to seek a victory in Spain,” Cairo told news agency Ansa.

“This is the moment to remain united and all cheer on Italy. In fact, I am getting ready to be there in Reggio-Emilia on Tuesday for the game against Israel.

“Ventura must be supported so he can remain as sharp and determined as he has been so far on the Azzurri bench. We cannot miss out on the World Cup.

“Now the important thing is that we all stick together ahead of the next match, which certainly won’t be as difficult as Spain, but cannot be taken for granted either.

“This is not the time to be putting the CT on trial. I’ve also seen a few players not at their best, but a game like that can happen, especially against phenomenons like Spain.

“I insist that today we must take nothing for granted and all work together to reach the target Italian football deserves.”

Ventura was the Coach of Cairo’s Torino since from 2011 to 2016.
