Brescia striker Mario Balotelli threatened to walk off after he was racially abused by Verona fans during a match between the sides last month.

And only yesterday, fresh controversy exploded after La Repubblica published an extract from a secretly-taped recording of Serie A chief Luigi De Siervo speaking to club representatives.

The issue doesn’t seem to be going away in Italy, but Cagni believes there is a “simple” way to combat it.

“Find out who’s making the racist chants, send them to prison and ban them from the stadiums.

“That’s how justice should be served.”
