This weekend’s Serie A match with Torino will be played behind closed doors, while President Massimo Cellino is under arrest and accused of fraud in the construction of the arena.
“Dear season ticket holders, we are again here to apologise once more for a situation that is at the very least incomprehensible,” read the open letter from the club.
“Cagliari have done everything to give a stadium to its fans, after the Stadio Sant’Elia was ruled unusable for two of its four sectors.
“Our efforts to do things quickly and well, however, were not sufficient to resolve the stadium problem and allow all of you fans to see our games.
“You season ticket holders have been particularly affected by this situation that over the last few days has become dramatic for our President.
“It is difficult to explain this dance that has developed around the Is Arenas, which one day is considered suitable to host games and the next is not. It has now become evident to everyone that Cagliari cannot be responsible for all of this.
“All we can do is make two promises. First, we will work night and day to resolve the Is Arenas issue in time for the next home game against Sampdoria.
“Second, we’ll find a way to reward those season ticket holders whose only crime was loving Cagliari. Thank you for your understanding and your love for Cagliari.”
