“Totti is immortal as a player,” he told a Press conference. “In this form he could make a different everywhere.

“He is proving to be a champion.

“We’ll have to find the strength to honour this qualification process. To play badly for the national team – at any stage – doesn’t please any one.

“The best thing for Italian football would be for us to win this game. We have to be a point of reference for the game in this country.”

Buffon then commented on recent controversy surrounding ‘territorial discrimination’ and Juve’s start to the season.
