Tajon Buchanan has given his first interview to Inter’s internal media channels after officially joining on a permanent transfer from Club Brugge on Friday afternoon.

The 24-year-old has put pen to paper on a four-and-a-half year contract, which will see him through until the end of the 2027-28 season. It is believed that Inter have paid a fee in the region of €10m including bonuses for his services.

Buchanan is Inter’s first ever Canadian player and will also become the first Canadian to take to the field in Serie A on his first official start, which he described as a ‘big achievement’.

Asked why he decided to join Inter, Buchanan replied: “At this point in my career, it felt like the right choice and the right fit. Obviously I’ve been watching Inter for a very long time and it just felt like a team and a place I saw myself playing at and I’m excited for the future.

“Take it day by day, control what I can control. That’s coming in, working hard and trying to adapt as quickly as possible. Learn from the coaching staff, learn from the guys who are here already, who have been in this league for a very long time. I’m eager to learn and ready to help the team.

“I’m here to learn and trying to adapt as quickly as possible. I’m very versatile and I bring a lot to the table, I can play a lot of different positions.”

Buchanan is initially expected to compete with Denzel Dumfries for a starting position at right wing-back in Simone Inzaghi’s 3-5-2, however, his versatility means he is capable of filling a number of different roles on the pitch.

“I think I’m a very direct player, I like to take my defender on one vs one. Over the past couple of years I’ve played right-back so I’m strong defensively as well. I like to make a difference in the final third.

“It’s about trying to take in as much as possible at first, learn from everyone, the coaching staff, the players on the team. To be the first Canadian is a big achievement, it’s extremely exciting and I’m very proud.

Buchanan concluded his interview by sharing his thoughts on the Nerazzurri supporter base.

“I don’t think I even know what to expect, I’ve never experienced anything like this in my life. Obviously watching on TV, the support is amazing, they sell out almost every game. I’m extremely excited and I can’t wait to show them what I can do and hopefully help the team.”
