Former Inter hero Andreas Brehme said coach Antonio Conte ‘fell in love’ with Achraf Hakimi in Dortmund and praised the wing-back’s immediate impact.

Hakimi, who was on loan at Borussia Dortmund when the two teams met in the Champions League last term, impressed and caught the eye during the match at Signal Iduna Park.

The wing-back arrived from Real Madrid ahead of the new season and has contributed one goal and two assists in three Serie A games so far.

“I’ll tell you how it went, I remember that game well,” Brehme told La Gazzetta dello Sport. “Conte fell in love with Hakimi in Dortmund.

“And he did well. The wing-back is fundamental in his play. He’s an exceptional player, there aren’t many around like that.

“He’s technical and very fast, he will give Inter a huge hand this season, I’m convinced.

“He was dominant in the Bundesliga, despite his young age. The calmness in producing assists after a sprint, he knows how to be decisive.

“Hakimi reminds me of when in my day, with the rule of three foreigners, the players that came from abroad had to make the difference.

“Here, with him, Inter went back to those days. Hakimi is not just anyone, on the pitch he does different things from the others."
