“There’s still a lot of anger, because we wanted to reach the final,” Borja told a Press conference as the Viola prepare to get this season’s campaign underway against Basel.
Fiorentina midfielder Borja Valero admits ‘there’s still a lot of anger’ after last year’s Europa League campaign.
The Viola made it to the semi-finals of the competition, but were humbled 5-0 on aggregate by eventual winners Sevilla.
“There’s still a lot of anger, because we wanted to reach the final,” Borja told a Press conference as the Viola prepare to get this season’s campaign underway against Basel.
“We’re ready for this new challenge. We want to move forward in this competition. We have players in our squad who have played in big matches like this in their career, and that increases the experience of the team.
“The only thing I’m missing is to win something. I want to tell my children one day about winning something, but I know it’s not easy.
“What do we have to do to be better than last year? We have to score more goals than our opponents…”
Swiss side Basel represent a tough start to the campaign for Paulo Sousa’s side, but the Spanish midfielder believes home advantage could make the difference.
“They’re used to playing in this type of competition. We’ll go onto the pitch well aware of the strength of our opponents.
“It won’t be easy to win against Basel, but we’re playing at home and we want to assert ourselves.
“I’ve been amazed by the support of the fans in the League, we know they’ll be important tomorrow night and I want to thank them.
“This season we’re not a team with big names, but we’ve got big attributes.”
