The Azzurri have already booked their spot at the 2014 World Cup thanks to six wins and two draws in Group B, so Coach Cesare Prandelli has the opportunity to experiment.

According to Sky Sport Italia, Borini has received a warning that he could be called up, though the squad will only be announced on Sunday evening.

Italy play in Denmark on October 11 and host Armenia at the Stadio San Paolo in Naples on October 15.

Although Borini had some senior call-ups before, he has primarily played with the Under-21 side, including at the European Championships in June.

The former Roma and Liverpool forward’s only senior cap was in a 1-0 friendly defeat to USA on February 29 2012.

His most recent call-up was for World Cup qualifiers in September 2012, but he didn’t set foot on the pitch.

Other Premier League players expected to receive a call for Italy’s next games are Dani Osvaldo of Southampton and Borini’s Sunderland teammate Emanuele Giaccherini.
