Leonardo Bonucci has defended Antonio Conte’s decision to cut Juventus’ day off last week, and also backed Sebastian Giovinco.

Conte notably cancelled the players’ day off last Monday, after the Bianconeri dropped a two-goal lead and two points in a draw with Hellas Verona.

On from defeating Chievo this Sunday, the Coach has received backing for that decision from one who lost his day off.

“We studied the game together with the boss to see where we could improve,” Bonucci has considered to reporters this week.

“He wanted to do it the very next day, that’s his character after all – he wanted to make us understand the winning mentality required.

“We are the team that has secured most wins this season, we cannot help but be hapy and optimistic.

“Juventus today is a team that reflects our Coach and this is our fortune.”

Conte, who yesterday hit out at Fabio Capello’s recent comments, also criticised Juventus’ own fans for booing Sebastian Giovinco.

“The manager’s gesture is a symbolic of the team’s attitude – we’re right behind Seba, who played a great game today.

“It’s understandable that he might be a bit upset, but he’s a great person, a great player and he’s shown that today on the pitch.”

Juve head back into European competition this week when they start their Europa League campaign against Trabzonspor.

“Winning is the best medicine for a football team. Now we will focus on the Europa League and then on the Turin derby. Our goal is to continue to ingest the medicine we call victory.”
