“We played, we never went under,” Donadoni told Rai after the final whistle.

“We were naive in conceding the first two goals, but then we got back on our feet in the match thanks to a great team effort.

“The match probably should have ended in a different way, but we proved our qualities against an opponent whose class everyone knows.

“We played on par with them, clearly with these great players you can lose even then. We had the chance to go 3-2 up, but we just didn’t have the right experience when it mattered.

“If you just look at the result then you’d say the glass is half-empty, but you need to consider other things.”
