He badly sprained his ankle with detachment of the medial malleolus during Saturday’s 1-0 defeat to Fiorentina.
A statement from the medical staff confirmed he will need to go under the knife.
It will be performed by Professor Giannini and his team at the Toniolo medical centre in Bologna tomorrow.
