Emilio De Leo says he is confident Bologna will have Gary Medel back against his former club Inter in Serie A on Saturday.

The third match in a week presents itself when Bologna host Inter this weekend, and De Leo is hoping to call on the “fundamental presence” of Medel, who has missed the Rossoblu’s last five games through injury.

“If we aren’t able to keep hold of what’s on offer, it surely means we lost the points,” Sinisa Mihajlovic’s assistant at a Press conference after his side lost 3-2 to Cagliari midweek.

“We could have kept going and we have regrets. In certain periods of the match we played it as we wished to, but we couldn’t keep it up for 95 minutes.”

“Medel trained yesterday and the same goes for today. We will assess the situation, but I’m sure he will be available.

“His presence and his personality are fundamental for us. I don’t think Gary needs to talk too much, he’s got the eye of a tiger and I feel he is eager to return this week.”

De Leo then urged fans to be “optimistic” for what the future held after a mixed start to the season.

“I think [a win] could help the growth of this group. It’s a very abnormal season, after what happened since July, but the message must be to learn how much we will grow from all these obstacles on our way.

“We mustn’t be discouraged by all this. We are optimistic and positive; a mature group and we want to get there. I remain very optimistic.

“We play against one of the best equipped teams in our League, looking at their players and the Coach.

“Sinisa has always told us that there is no job too big but rather to small to reason. We need show intensity and concentrate in every aspect of the game, to add to our usual hunger.

“From a tactical point of view, we know what strengths that lie with the Nerazzurri, but we will have to impose our own game well and face them without fear. We need a hand from our fans.”
