Milan legend Zvonimir Boban has applauded Inter’s capture of Dinamo Zagreb starlet Mateo Kovacic.

The 18-year-old is expected to complete his move to the Nerazzurri today after an initial fee of around €11m was agreed.

“He could be a better player than I was,” Boban said of his fellow Croatian to Sky Sport Italia. “He’s a complete talent.

“He needs to work hard, mature and gain experience to become a player of the highest level. He’s an excellent element though, a very quick one.”

Inter’s swoop for the player did come as a surprise even though it was known that the player was liked by the Beneamata.

“I didn’t expect the transfer to happen during this period,” Boban continued. “I knew of their interest, but not of talks.

“Inter technical director Marco Branca has done really well to sign him. He has enormous potential.”
