FIFA President Sepp Blatter met with Pope Francis today and warned foreign investment in clubs “is not always a good thing.”
The chief of world football sat down with the Pope at the Vatican and spoke at a Press conference.
He was asked about the arrival of Indonesian President Erick Thohir, who has bought out 70 per cent of Inter and taken over as President.

He was asked about the arrival of Indonesian President Erick Thohir, who has bought out 70 per cent of Inter and taken over as President.
“Foreign investment is not always a good thing,” said Blatter. “In England it worked well for the clubs, but not for their national team’s fortunes.
“I met FIGC President Giancarlo Abete and his Vice-Presidents to discuss the Azzurri, who are going well, the club results that are not an issue for FIFA, but I still carefully follow what happens in Italy.
“The meeting with the Pope was one between sportsmen and passionate football fans. We spoke the same language, that of football.
“We also discussed peace and that will be an important element of the World Cup in Brazil. Before each game a dove of peace will fly in the stadium and at the final whistle there will be a handshake of peace.”
