“He’s decided to not renew his agreement,” Cagliari President Massimo Cellino has commented. “It’s a mutual decision.

“He’ll end the season with us where he will continue to help the youngsters in the squad to grow and mature.”

Biondini, one goal in 14 Serie A appearances this season, joined the Stadio Sant’Elia outfit in the summer of 2006 after a campaign at Reggina.

The midfielder has also played for Cesena and Vicenza during his career.

According to a report in the Secolo XIX newspaper, Genoa have already made steps to sign the Longiano-born player in the summer on a Bosman deal.

Biondini has won two Italian caps while impressing for Cagliari.
