Simone Inzaghi is confident Lazio will keep “Europe’s best” deep-lying midfielder Lucas Biglia and claims managing the club “was fate”.

Biglia’s contract expires at the end of next season, amidst reports that Lazio may cash in on the midfielder in January if a new deal is not agreed, while Inzaghi has impressed since becoming the Aquile’s permanent Coach after the Marcelo Bielsa ordeal.

“Will Biglia leave? I think and hope not,” the former striker told Radio anch’io lo sport.

“Will Biglia leave? I think and hope not,” the former striker told Radio anch’io lo sport.

“He’s talking to the club, I hope he renews because there aren’t any players like him in his position in Europe.

“We must stay focused on the pitch, we’ll talk about the market in January.”

Inzaghi also touched on the rumour that he had been offered the chance to coach Serie B side Salernitana in the summer.

“Everyone has a path, you can see it was fate,” he added.

“I’m convinced that I deserved this dugout. I’d think twice if it was another team, but Lazio are my home and I couldn’t say no.

“With Lotito, I’ve never spoken about Bielsa, I’m not going to joke about serious things like these.

“I have maximum peace of mind, I’d have gone to Salernitana and done my best.

“Now things are going well and we’ll try to stay on this path.

“Me going for Europe and Pippo in Serie B? Both are difficult things. Winning in the Lega Pro is never easy.

“For now, though, both of us are doing well. I left Europe as a player and I’m trying to find her as Coach again, but it’s a difficult League.

“We’re a young team, with significant potential for growth. We have to get to Christmas in this position, but we don’t have an easy calendar.

“Am I now more famous than Pippo? Any player would be in his shadow, he was an incredible striker.

“But I’m the only Italian to have score four goals in one game in the Champions League and for Lazio. Italy’s had so many top strikers.”
