Federico Bernardeschi describes Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon as “a legend” but “I wouldn’t mind scoring past him…”

The Fiorentina striker shares a hometown, Carrara, with the Bianconeri ‘keeper, but that won’t stop him trying to beat him when the teams meet on Sunday.

“Buffon? For Carrara he’s an icon, a legend, a maestro – someone to learn from,” Bernardeschi said in a Press conference.

“Buffon? For Carrara he’s an icon, a legend, a maestro – someone to learn from,” Bernardeschi said in a Press conference.

“He’s a legendary figure for the city and for football. First you must have respect for the person, then for the player.

“That said, on Sunday I wouldn’t mind scoring past him…”

This weekend’s match comes at arguably the worst possible time, with the Viola in poor form and their hated rivals close to sealing a fifth-consecutive Scudetto.

“I think this match is experience in a beautiful, positive way in Florence. In the dressing room we’re fired-up, just like the fans.

“We’re going through a difficult spell, but I think you see the real team in moments like this. We’re all fighting for a common objective.

“We’re preparing for this match as well as possible, and as always we’ll give everything we have. We’re a strong and close-knit group, because we want to fight for the same objectives.

“We’re in a period where the results aren’t coming, but we have to prove who we are. We’ll face the game with the same hunger, but it’ll maybe be just that little bit more special.”
