Silvio Berlusconi reveals he tried to sign Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Kaka for Monza but is ‘hopeful’ of bringing in Daniel Maldini from Milan.

Ibrahimovic returned to Milan in January and Kaka has since retired from football, but Berlusconi claims they could have helped Monza win promotion to Serie B instead.

“He was our real objective, as well as Kaka,” he told TeleLombardia.

“Non-footballing issues got in the way and we had to give them up, but you never know…”

The Biancorossi managed to do so without the pair, in the 83-year-old’s second season as their owner.

As for Daniel Maldini, the former Milan President expressed optimism about Paolo’s son ‘proving’ his quality in Brianza next season.

“We hope so, we hope he’ll prove himself as a talented young lad.”
