The patron repeatedly postponed crunch talks with his Coach until Sunday night, when he finally announced Allegri would be staying at San Siro, but there was no contract renewal.
“The rapport with Allegri has always been very cordial, but we had different viewpoints on certain decisions to take with regards to some players,” Berlusconi told Teleroma 56.
“Milan are the most successful club in the world and its President, along with Adriano Galliani, expect the club and the direction to be respected.”
It was rumoured that Berlusconi was particularly furious with his Coach for dropping Stephan El Shaarawy during the last few weeks of the season, while he also criticised his tactical choices.
Allegri had been on the verge of joining Roma, but opted to remain at Milan instead.
“Did he talk to the Roma directors? That’s a question for him and for Roma,” continued Berlusconi.
“We maintained the contract that we already had. We affirmed what were the rights and duties of a Coach in his rapport with the club.”
This phrase was also used in the statement released by the President on Sunday evening. However, at the time it was a mutual affirmation of rights and duties, whereas Berlusconi now put it forward as only the club reminding the Coach what is expected of him.
Allegri’s contract runs until June 2014.
