Former Milan President and ex-Prime Minister of Italy Silvio Berlusconi has donated €10m to the Lombardy region to create 400 new temporary intensive care units amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The crisis has hit Lombardy harder than anywhere else in Italy and Europe, representing the epicentre of the outbreak outside China.

Over 2,100 people have died in Italy after contracting coronavirus, with a further 1,851 in intensive care.

Of the 2,158 who have died, 1,420 of them were in Lombardy.

There simply aren’t enough beds to deal with the extent of the problem, so former Milan President and ex-Prime Minister of Italy Berlusconi has made a huge donation.

He put forward €10m to help create 400 new temporary intensive care units at the Fiera di Milano site.
