Inter legend Beppe Bergomi is confident that new Inter signing Piotr Zielinski will get playing time but hints that the Nerazzurri’s midfield may lack physicality in 2024-25.

Inter will be looking to retain the Serie A title this season and have already secured three signings this summer: Mehdi Taremi, Piotr Zielinski and Josep Martinez.

Bergomi previewed the Inter season in a column published by La Gazzetta dello Sport, mainly focusing on central midfield.

“Inter have a very strong midfield. Those identified as the regular starters, Barella, Calhanoglu and Mkhitaryan, are practically three No.10 who have changed roles and are doing really well, granting incredible quality,” said the ex-defender.

“The reserves are just as good. Asllani improved his self-esteem during the Euros, and Frattesi has different skill sets because of his late runs. Zielinski is perfect for letting the Armenian [Mkhitaryan] rest, as he knows how to play in both phases.

“Perhaps the only thing missing is some extra centimetres, as no Inter midfielders have a dominating structure in terms of height and physicality.

“I am sure Zielinski will have no problems settling in,” noted Bergomi.

“After all, Inter play with three central midfielders, just like Napoli. It’s hard to tell whether he can be a starter. Mkhitaryan is very prepared; he’s been in Milan for two years, and I don’t see a sudden drop in terms of physical shape or performance. However, Zielinski will surely get playing time.

“Generally, I don’t expect many changes from Inzaghi, especially at the beginning. He will have to rate because Inter can’t choose this season. They must go all the way in all competitions. In June, there will be the Club World Cup as well. For this reason, it will be fundamental to manage the energy, and with such a deep squad, it will surely be easier.”
