Mario Beretta prepares for his debut on the Cesena bench and does so against his former club Chievo. “We need a strong start.”

The Coach was drafted in this week as the third choice of the season after Marco Giampaolo and Daniele Arrigoni.

“I found a team that works hard and really wants to get into the thick of things. Now we have to focus only on working to rediscover the certainties we lost over the course of the campaign,” said Beretta.

“I still haven’t chosen my starting XI. We tested out both the 3-5-2 and 4-4-2 during the week, but I still have to make a decision.

“We must be very concentrated and sharp. I ask the team for a great performance, as we need a strong start. I want a side that can give 150 per cent.”

It is a special game for Beretta, as not only is it his debut, but it also pits him against the team he ran in 2004-05.

“I had a good experience in Serie A with Chievo and always thanked the club for giving me that opportunity. It was my first season in the top flight and it was a shame I couldn’t finish the term.

“There are many talented players at Chievo, although the one I fear the most is Sergio Pellissier. We must find a way of defusing his attacking threat, which includes his movement off the ball.”
