Inter boss Rafa Benitez believes tonight's game against Tottenham in the Champions League could have a crucial bearing on his side's season.

The European champions travel to White Hart Lane with an opportunity to qualify for the next round of the competition with two games to spare.

"Winning this game would be very important and the players know it," Benitez said.

"We know what we must do to manage it, even if I had the sensation that when Tottenham faced Manchester United on Saturday they were already thinking about us."

When asked to explain why it is so important, Benitez said: "So we can work better and prepare better for the upcoming title clashes in Serie A and the Club World Cup.

"We have 21 players with us and all are available for selection – all teams have injuries. Inter are a very good team and that is why we are where we are at the moment.

"It is not because I am a Champions League specialist. In the past, the team found it difficult to get through the group stage.

"If we win, we are through and can relax and prepare for more League games.

"After good times at Liverpool, I was really pleased to be there and now I'm really pleased to be in Italy.

"It's a different style of football and League but we will try to do well," he concluded.
