Marek Hamsik was expected to be back in the starting XI, but he was only a substitute for his first appearance since November 23.

Benitez was asked about the transfer strategy and told Napoli fans to get ready for a ‘gift,’ though he would not comment on whether it was Verona midfielder Jorginho or Tottenham's Etienne Capoue.
“I am sure 100 per cent that the President will do something this week. I am certain of it. Tomorrow? We still have a few days to work and sort things out, but we’ll do at least one or two moves this week.
“I only talk about my own players, not those who are at other clubs.”
The Spanish Coach was asked why his teams have tended to do better in Cup competitions than the League.
“I always take it one game at a time. If we win the next, the one after that and after that, then we’ll see what happens. It’s tough to control what other sides do, but if we keep winning our games then we’ve got a good chance of at least getting second place.
“If we use two or three new players, the way we did tonight, and still win then that means we’re getting the best out of the squad. In that situation, we can try to go as far as possible in all competitions.
“My teams tended to win Cup competitions rather than the League because of the squad and the strength in depth. You cannot think to win a League title without a very strong squad, which means having a bigger revenue than the other clubs.
“This is why I say Cup competitions are based more on tactics, approach and mentality, whereas the League is more about the squad.”
