The former Liverpool and Chelsea manager is having a great start to the Serie A season with two consecutive wins in which Hamsik scored four goals.
“Hamsik is very important because he slots in at the right time, but Gonzalo Higuain also does well to create space for him,” Benitez told Sky Sport Italia.
“Is Hamsik like Gerrard? They are different players. Hamsik doesn’t have Gerrard’s strength, but he does have more tactical intelligence.”
Chievo twice pegged Napoli back in the first half, but the Partenopei eventually emerged 4-2 winners.
“There were many positive things about this match. We started well, especially in the first half-hour. We scored twice, conceded twice, but reacted well. There were a few mistakes, though I think this team is working well.”
