Benitez has won the competition twice in his career already, and took the time to reflect on previous triumphs.

“Winning is always a matter of pride. With Valencia, we won the League at the end of a cycle, winning the UEFA Cup [in 2004] was important for the city, it was a double with the League title. It was fantastic.

“With Chelsea [in 2013] it was even more important, because it was a difficult season and I knew I was leaving.

“I had to show my professionalism, and the players were fantastic, they worked until the end.”
