Andrea Belotti confessed it’s “a dream” to be back in the Italy line-up after he was left out for several months.

Il Gallo had been dropped by Coach Roberto Mancini during a period of poor form, but made an impact in the 3-0 win away to Greece with an assist for Nicolò Barella’s opener.

“I am really very happy with the compliments. I’ve been out of the Italy squad since September, so playing for the Nazionale is always a dream and something fantastic. I’m very pleased to be back in this important part of the season,” the Torino striker told Rai Sport.

“I am in good physical shape now and can play more consistently, so this return to international duty is like a rebirth for me. If the strikers score, that’s a bonus, but the most important thing is that the team wins and plays well.”

The Azzurri were 3-0 up at half-time, but failed to add any more to the rout in this Euro 2020 qualifier.

“The Coach got angry with us, because we didn’t press as high as we did in the first half and you could see the difference. When we lower the tempo, we risk conceding and did it a couple of times this evening, so that’s a lesson we need to learn.”
