A goal by Andrea Belotti could not prevent Torino from going down to a 3-1 defeat against Liverpool.
Walter Mazzarri’s team were overrun in the opening stages at Anfield last night, with Fabinho missing a penalty for the hosts after Sadio Mane was fouled in the Granata box.
However, it was only a temporary relief for Toro, with Roberto Firmino scoring via a deflection just minutes later.

And when Gini Wijnaldum doubled Liverpool’s lead following a fine team move, it looked as though the Reds could inflict the same pain on Toro as they did on Napoli in Dublin last weekend, when Carlo Ancelotti’s side were thrashed 5-0.
But to their credit, the visitors weathered the early storm and pulled a goal back when Lorenzo De Silvestri’s inch perfect cross was powerfully headed in by Belotti.
Both teams made a flurry of changes as the contest wore on, which resulted in a scrappy second half.
But Liverpool sealed the win shortly before the end, Daniel Sturridge nodding in a cross from the right by Xherdan Shaqiri.
Toro now return to Italy, where they will begin preparations for Sunday’s Coppa Italia meeting with Cosenza.
