It is unclear how long Dusan Basta will be out for after the Udinese man underwent surgery for “multiple fractures” to his face.

The Serbian defender was a substitute in the 2-0 Europa League defeat to Anzhi on Thursday when an accidental collision saw him stretchered off in agony.

This morning Basta went under the knife “to reduce and stabilise multiple fractures in and around the left cheekbone and eye socket,” read a club statement.

“Rigid titanium plaques were placed to ensure a more rapid recovery. The player has been released from hospital and his condition will be re-evaluated next week, when we will have a better idea of how long it will take to get back to competitive football.”
