Nicolò Barella is relishing his “freedom” to roam in the Italy midfield and broke his Azzurri duck in the 2-0 win over Finland.

The Cagliari midfielder got his first senior Italy goal in the opener for their Euro 2020 qualifying campaign.

“I am happy and I dedicate this goal to Cagliari,” Barella told Rai Sport.

“The Coach asks me to push forward more, and Marco Verratti and Jorginho are both so good at playing between the lines, so they cover me.

“I have a little more freedom and even scored a goal, so what more could I ask for?”

Today Cagliari President Tommaso Giulini said it will cost “more than €50m” to buy Barella.

“I don’t know what my transfer value is and to be honest it’s of no interest to me. I just want to give my best for Cagliari.”
