Lazio striker Miroslav Klose was on the verge of a move to Barcelona six years ago, his agent has revealed.

The German will arrive in Barcelona today to receive a fair play award and his representative has confirmed past talks with the Nou Camp outfit.

“Klose could have signed for Barcelona several times, but the time when he was closest was in 2007,” Alexander Schutt stated, in reference to the summer he left Werder Bremen.

The 34-year-old will this week attend the 65th Gran Gala Mundo Deportivo awards which will commemorate the best sporting moments of 2012.

Klose will be honoured after he admitted to the referee that his ‘goal’ against Napoli earlier this season had been scored with his hand.

The veteran moved to Bayern Munich in 2007 and then Lazio in 2011.

Klose, currently sidelined with injury, has scored 10 goals in 20 League games this season.
