Sevilla’s sporting director Ramón Rodríguez Verdejo announces Inter target Ever Banega’s contract extension has been triggered.

It was announced last week that the Argentinian midfielder would automatically receive an extra year on his contract if he played 30 games.

The Nerazzurri were hoping to bring Banega for free this summer, but have been handed a blow as it appears he is now under contract until 2017.

“Compared to last Friday there’s a difference,” Verdejo, commonly known as Monchi, revealed to Onda Cero Sevilla.

“Namely that Banega played in the last game and then automatically renewed until 2017. The player has renewed, all that I care about is his performance remaining at a high level.

“He’s fully involved in the dynamics of the team. I understand that he could attract interest, but he has a contract until June 30, 2017.

“Sevilla as a club were talking about a renewal since last August when we were in Brighton [for a pre-season friendly]. We’re calm, because we have a great relationship with him.

“When we talk about him I always refer to two examples [Carlos] Bacca and [Ivan] Rakitic. Both game everything until their last minute with us.”
